FEATUREDThis live album reflects the versatility of this purebred blues artist. The repertoire consists of real classics with previously released original songs by the singer-songwriter himself. He mixes fine slow-blues songs like Hurtsville and Wanna Be Your Friend , with up-tempo blues like The Goody Sack and Lil Brown Eyes and songs with a vintage soul and funk touch like Blues Calling My Name and Play Me That Old Time Blues.
Catfish Blues is really a blues song in the style of John Lee Hooker, while Ealey also has a country and roots side. You can hear this in the acoustic songs This Is A Song For My Daughter, So Tired and This Is The Reason For The Season . In all cases his guitar playing is excellent. Every note is right. Fine blues riffs are interspersed with tasty soul licks. Funky bass lines, grooving drum parts, soulful horns and a honky tonk piano color the songs further. Everything is right and is tight. Ealey's soulful vocals are nice to listen to; it sounds warm, sincere and comes immediately. 'Blues Is Calling My Name' is a record that whispers away and tells you how such a fantastic entertainer Theodis is and how well he and his band are played on each other. The enthusiasm radiates and it stands like a house. |
Blues singer, guitarist, and bandleader Theodis Ealey has earned his nickname as "a Real Mississippi Bluesman." Mr Ealey first made his name working first with Eugene Butler & The Rocking Royals. In this band he really learned the tricks of the trade and developed his guitar playing. He also played guitar with Charles Brown, Johnny Clyde Copeland, Little Milton and Richard 'Dimples' Fields
